Tripletail are an awesome fighting fish found near Port Canaveral and Cape Canaveral's shoreline. Early summer and late spring are great time to target tripletail nearshore, not far from the beaches. November December and January are great for big tripletail if we have a mild winter.
"We had an Indian summer in January of 2005 and the tripletail were out-in-numbers along with freeswimming cobia", explains Captain Richard of Lagooner fishing guides. "We had three weeks of excellent fishing off Port Canaveral in January 2005 and limited out on tripletail almost every time we went out. Most of the country was in snow and storms and Florida was making up for last years hurricane ravages."

I'm not one to brag (yeah right!), but Port Canaveral has the best tripletail fishing in the world. How can I make a bold claim like that? It's easy! Look at the IGFA's website for all the tripletail records and Canaveral eclipses every other location worldwide.
Generally speaking, there are two yearly time periods that tripletail are most cooperative. The spring from late April thru late summer and then again in the fall around November they make another appearance. Tripletail show up for a few days/weeks and disappear as fast as they came into the picture. I keep up with the tripletail bite, so if I say "they're on or off" you can pretty much count on it either way. Tripletail can be physically demanding and challenging for anglers that are not spry on their feet and strong in the arm, so consider this angling experience not for the novice or weak.
Finding Port Canaveral from Orlando is easy and close as the Orlando International Airport is a straight shot from the exit on SR 528 or the Beachline. Simply head east from MCO (airport) on SR 520 and continue for 46 miles to the Port Canaveral Terminal B exit on George King Boulevard and you're there.
Port Canaveral is directly east of Orlando on Florida's east coast and Atlantic Ocean shoreline. It's Orlando's closest beaches and most laid back atmosphere. South of Daytona and directly north and adjacent to Cocoa Beach the City of Cape Canaveral is snuggled between the Kennedy Space Center on Canaveral's National Seashore and Brevard County's beautiful Cocoa Beach.
